Dana my 7 year old daughter asked if she could have a party to celebrate her 7th Birthday and use the party as an opportunity to raise money for The Canadian Cancer Society instead of getting gifts for herself. Dana lost her beloved grandmother to cancer this past spring and she felt that she had to do something so that other little girls would not have to lose such an important member of a young girl’s life to such a brutal disease. She hopes that efforts like this will help find a cure for cancer in her lifetime. As you can well imagine, we were touched and extremely proud to see such generous and selfless qualities in our young daughter.
We granted her wish and organized a Family Day in the Park picnic and Party at Belwood Lake Conservation Area in Fergus Ontario. Fun for the family and kids included a BBQ, trout pond fishing and water tube rides in the big lake. We were also treated to a kareoke version of "The Climb" sung by Dana to all present.
There was a wonderful turnout and everybody was in the spirit and gave so generously.
Thanks to all who contributed, Dana was able to raise $743.00 for The Canadian Cancer Society.
Dana was very proud as she gave the giant cheque to the Society representative Nancy Yarmel of the Burlington office.
I love my daughter more than I can convey in words. Let’s hope that her efforts will help find a cure for cancer soon.
